Body Types - Which type are you?

Body Types - Which type are you?

Have you ever tried on the latest trend and then looked at yourself in the mirror only to say ugh???   We all have. It doesn’t take long to figure out some things don’t look good on us.  Why is that?  We have different body types.

When you know your body type, you can choose clothing that flatters your positives and minimizes your negatives, it’s a win-win for fashion and you.

Take the body quiz to find out your type. It doesn’t have to be this one, but it’s a place to start.

https://www.beautyriot.com/fashion/8191-quiz-whats-body-type

Nobody wants to waste their time or money on clothes that hang in the closet because they don’t look good. Knowing your type and what styles flatter you helps you to choose clothes and tweak them in a way that matches your style.

Dress for Your Body Type:  Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, or Inverted Triangle.

An Apple Body Shape

The apple-shaped figure has a heavier upper body when compared to the lower part of the body. People with this body type usually have broad shoulders and a bigger bust line.

Since most of the weight and concentration is above the hips, the waistline appears heavy.  The goal is to take the attention away from that part of your body and highlight your assets. Try to flaunt your legs or wear the dress with V or deep V necklines that created an elongated illusion of the torso.

A-line or empire cuts are ideal for you. Printed dresses or patterned jackets that add a layer help to shift the focus. Monochrome looks, dark colors, full or 3/4th sleeves, and flowy tops will help. Try flared bottoms; palazzos etc. to create balance. Make sure that you are wearing the right bra.

An Hour-Glass Body Shape

This body type is the most balanced with proportionate top and bottom parts of the body with a well-defined waistline. When you look for clothes, choose the ones that accentuate your well-balanced figure and ones that follow the natural flow of your curves.

Dresses that cinch at the waist will be your best fit. Sweetheart necklines will help you to accentuate your upper body. To flaunt your waistline, go with a belt at your natural waistline or below the belly button—either way it looks great. A-line dresses or similar cuts take care of working on the lower part of the body. Body-hugging dresses are your go to.

A Pear Body Shape

The pear-shaped body is all about the lower part of your body. Your behind and thighs are visually bigger than your upper body. Thanks to Kim Kardashian and others, this body is a rage right now.

The advantage of this body type is that you can create an illusion of an hourglass figure if you style it correctly. Your shoulders are narrow, and hips are wide, so all you must do is to strike a balance. Wear outfits that enhance your upper body.

Wide-legged pants, A-line skirts, or dresses with patterned or ruffled tops that add definition to the upper body look great. Skinny jeans with loose tops help create an hourglass illusion. Focus on the upper body to balance your bottom out.

A Rectangle Body Shape

The rectangle-shaped body is well balanced from the shoulders to the hips. There is not much definition to your silhouette, so it is straightforward.

Your arms and legs are your assets so, focus on enhancing that. It’s like the hourglass figure minus the defined waistline.

Choose A-line skirts, ruffled and layered tops. Choose dresses that add definition to your bottom and necklines that add enhance your upper body. Sleeveless, strapless, and sweetheart lines are your thing. Blazers, long jackets, and capes add the much-needed drama here.

An Inverted Triangle Body Shape?

The inverted triangle is the most athletic looking body type. Your shoulders are much broader than your hips. So, your arms and shoulders need to be enhanced as much as you can.

Remember to add definition to your hips and to focus on creating a balance. Straight-cut jeans and dresses that naturally have an inverted V-look to them are all clothes that will suit your body.

Since your hips are much narrower than your shoulders, pencil cut skirts, skinny jeans, etc. with any kind of tops will look great. Do make sure that there is not a lot of layering or definition to your upper body because it needs none. V-neck lines work well and help to create an illusion of narrow shoulders.

It’s up to you to find out what your body type is and to use it to take advantage of the fashion trends. You can rock the scene when you use what you know to make you the best you.

Best Wishes on your journey and don’t forget to let us know at 3 T’s Boutique what you discover.

Education Choices & Your Future

Education Choices & Your Future

If you are a senior this year you have a few more weeks until graduation, the unofficial start of your future.  If you aren’t graduating this year then you have more time to think about when it is your turn.

Graduation from high school is exciting, it is a magnificent accomplishment, but it can also be a bit terrifying. Terrifying you say, how is that possible?  I’ve looked forward to this moment for years; to finally be out on my own, making my own choices, running my own show.

That’s the terrifying part, the time has come.  You’re going to be deciding about what to do next.  Maybe you’ve already decided.  Maybe you’ve given it some thought, maybe you haven’t.  You have lots of options.

Certainly, college as an option has come up, but college isn’t for everyone, right?  Wrong.  College is education past high school and includes various kinds of certificates, apprentice programs, technical training, as well as, an associate or bachelor’s degree.   College is for everyone if that is what you want.  If money is an issue, there are federal grants, state scholarships and special programs for certain skilled areas.  Check out the Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship and other ideas at arkansasnext.com.

If you need some ideas about high paying skilled professions that don’t require a four-year degree, arkansasnext.com can also hook you up with 17 jobs that are hot right now.

For the last two years, the top in-demand jobs for high, moderate and basic skill levels have remained consistent in Arkansas.  Jobs range all the way from financial managers to personal care aides.  In demand means that there are openings now and expected in the future, which increases your chance to land one.  Keep up with the Hot 45 at careerwatch.org

If more school is not what you are looking for, the military is a good option that trains you and gives you money for more education later.  Entering the workforce immediately works for people who just aren’t sure right now.

Whatever you choose, there are some things that you will not miss about high school.

  • All the drama…enough said.
  • Trying to fit in. Be yourself and have fun.
  • Cliques aren’t really a thing anymore. You pick who you hang out with.
  • You never have to see your classmates again, unless you want to.

You don’t have to have the rest of your life planned out you just need a place to start.  Pick one and get started.  Good Luck!!!

Prom Gowns and Wedding Attire

Prom Gowns and Wedding Attire

The prom and wedding 2020 season are upon us.  It’s never too early to start dreaming about dresses! There are many hot trends for the season that you should be aware of if you’d like to look swank for your big occasion.

#1: The Jumpsuit

Retro jumpsuits have seen a surge in popularity and 2020 looks to be their ruling season.  If you want to slay prom night or the wedding reception in one of these powerful, glamorous one-pieces, a jumpsuit looks just as formal and appropriate as a dress; but makes a chic impact as it is still unexpected.

Look for a slight 70’s vibe with an off-shoulder cut and pair it with black heels, a smoky eyeshadow, and slicked-back hair.

#2: Red-Carpet Dresses

Be inspired by the glam from red carpet events and awards shows. The red-carpet look is all about being bold.

Details should be lavish, luscious and glamorous – think sparkling sequins and dazzling beadwork to catch the light.

To nail this style for your event, look for unique elements such as a shoulder ruffle, fringe or stone embellishment. Add accessories and makeup inspired by your favorite star to get it right.

#3: The Classic Ballgown

This classic A-line silhouette is back in fashion for fancy events.  Much like a princess-style shape, this gorgeous style will make you feel very formal and dressed-up.

For 2020, the ballgown has been given a makeover and includes many savvy designs features such as floral applique, sheer bodices, lace-up backs and more. Gone is the ballgown gown as a dated or boring option – it can be just as unique.

Pair this style up with loose hair, a statement pair of earrings or a choker necklace, and ivory heels.  Add some glowing makeup with a strong highlight that brings out your natural features.

4: Metallic Dresses

Metallic gowns have been strutting their stuff for seasons and aren’t going anywhere for 2020. This highly glamorous look is all about sparkling bright and standing out from the crowd.

New for the 2020 season, you’ll find almost every color of the rainbow available in metallic fabric or embellishment such as royal blue and ruby red options.

Wear your chosen metallic gown with simple accessories in black, white or nude. Keep makeup toned down, although a bold red or pink lipstick can add a gorgeous pop of color.

#5: Sequin Dresses

Competing with the metallic trend, sequin dresses are a hot favorite for the 2020 season.  Glitzy and glamourous, these gowns allow you to feel like a diva as you pause for a pose.

Sequins can add a unique twist to any look. They can include a pattern or gradient, be reversible or iridescent. The options are limitless!

When wearing a sequin dress to your special night, opt to amplify the glam with metallic accessories and matching jewels. A chignon bun or loose wavy hairstyle is the perfect unfettered hairdo to complete your outfit.

Gowns, gowns, gowns…. the choices are astounding.  Enjoy selecting the one that is right for you.

Accessories - The Finishing Touch For Every Outfit

You’ve put together a snappy outfit, now for the finishing touch…accessories. No look is complete without them.  2020 brings with it bold trends, some sure to become your new favorites.

Chunky Boots made the cut and will be around for another season; the chunkier, the better.  With a dress or jeans, around the house or a night out on the town, chunky is your go-to boot.

Platform Sandals move to center stage.  Not only do you get some added height, but they are ultra-comfy and look great with wide-leg pants, dresses and vintage wear.

Square is back!  Whether it be strappy sandals or pumps, you’ll be seeing square toes a lot.

Mary Janes have been a closet staple for years.  2020 is time to make room for some stylish Mary Jane pumps.  Just like her little sister, Mary Jane pumps are practical and a little bit flirty.

Bags, Bags, Bags are out there in all shapes, sizes and colors.  From big super-size softies that hold almost anything to small soft feminine clutches.  Choose from street-savvy Bucket Bags for women on the go, multicolored bags, bags with fringe and matching mini bags to go with your bag.  There is a statement bag for every outfit.

Sunglasses shapes take a back seat to color this year.  Not just for function anymore, color is a bold way to flash your style.

Boutonnieres come out of the closet.  Adorning a lapel or a wide-brimmed hat, take advantage of this chic way to accent your outfit.

Large Chain Necklaces and Hoop Earrings stay strong.  A new jewelry trend you’ll see is clear or transparent pieces made from glass or acrylic.

Padded Head Bands and Wide Waist Belts will be seen across all venues, as well as Bucket Hats and Silk Scarf wrapped heads.

Tis the season for all things Raffia.  Find the plant fiber woven into bags, shoes, and belts.  This is a must-have for 2020.

Have fun vamping up your personal style!

Friendship - Good For Your Happiness And Health

Friendship - Good For Your Happiness And Health

It may have been at the park, in your neighborhood or at a new school…            "go make some friends."  We’ve all heard that.  So, what is the point about making friends?  Why are friends important?

Aside from the obvious, there are a lot of studies that show the emotional and physiological benefits of having friends.  Let’s take a look…

Happiness Is Contagious

If a friend of ours is happy, we’re more likely to be happy too. The happiest people are the most social. The need to belong is foundational, so get out there and get your happy on.

Friends Skip the Small Talk

When was the last time you had a girl’s night?  If you can’t remember, it’s been too long.  The people in your life who say what’s on their mind are priceless.  Don’t lose those people.

Friends Reduce Stress

When we are frazzled or are having a hard day, we turn to friends.  Women are more likely to do this than men, which is why women are less likely to suffer the effects of stress.

Friends Keep You Razor-Sharp.

Above-average cognitive performance in “super-agers” (people over 80 years old) is related to social integration, engagement with family, and emotional support from a social network.

Friends Help You Live Longer.

When researchers asked more than 90,000 women how much social support they had, those who said they had more support were more likely to still be living in a follow-up years later. Friendships don’t just make our lives better; they make them longer. Women who have at least one confidant survive longer after surgery for breast cancer.  GIRL POWER!

Friendships Improve Our Health

How many of us started an exercise regimen, a mindset to quit vaping or to stop an unhealthy habit and after a while wanted to quit?  Friends hold us accountable and walk with us through the “I quit” moment.

Social support wards off depression and suicide. People who are lonely tend to have higher blood pressure and other risk factors for heart disease, and they’re more likely to “give up” or “quit trying” to deal with a stressor such as illness.  Take care of your friends.  They need you.

Our Friends Help Us Feel Optimistic

Daily social support is a key factor in feeling optimistic. Optimism, in turn, increases our satisfaction with life and lowers our risk of depression.  When we have social support, our visual perception of challenges changes: mountains look more like molehills.

If you have friends, make sure that they know how much they mean to you.

Make more friends; you can never have too many.

2020 Fashion Trends - A New Decade

2020 Fashion Trends - A New Decade

A new decade, but fashion trends for 2020 are more of your vintage favorites going as far back as the ’70s.  If you aren’t the vintage type, there are many modern styles sticking around so you’ll have fun updating your closet for spring.  Read on to learn about 2020’s hottest fashion throwbacks.

Flare Jeans are still a hot ticket and now we are seeing full-fledged Bell Bottoms.  Rock them with platform heels and a crop top.

Platform Heels and Chunky Soles are all the rage with everything from romantic summer dresses and short shorts.

Ankle Chains make a comeback but this time around its about flashing gold and silver statement pieces.  Check out shoes that have the bling built into the ankle strap for instant style.

Bra Tops steal some of the limelight away from Crop Tops this season.  Paired with high waisted skirts or pants, you’re all set for spring and summer.

Crochet pieces in bright bold colors.  Not unlike Grandma’s doilies, but with a cool modern spin for skirts, tops and dresses.

Puffed Sleeves will stick around.  Pair them with some skinny jeans to balance the retro look.

Fringed skirts make a flirty statement.  To avoid the cowgirl look wear them with an oversized sweater and flats.

Hot Pants and Bermuda Shorts – A sassy look for evening or a new twist on business casual, shorts are an item this year.  Slick black stockings with hot pants take the look more places.  Paired with a blazer and sneakers, Bermuda shorts go nine to five.

Polka Dots on a maxi, mini, lacey or not, the dot is in the driver’s seat this season.  Big and bold, small and cute, polka dots are a 2020 fashion staple.

The Disco Collar is back and is as swanky as ever.  The updated super collar for jackets, button-downs and coats are seen with contrasting colors, so the look stands out.

Denim Dresses stay strong and are the perfect pairing for platform heels and big hair.

Bigger Hoop Earrings, Chunkier Necklaces and Pearls are the jewelry trends to look for this season.

Have fun taking your trip back in time with 2020’s fashion trends.

New Year, New You

New Year, New You

One of the most exciting things about a new year is that it is a chance to start over, a chance to embrace a new you.  There are a lot of ways to do that.  Your way will look different than your friend’s way.  The important thing is that it suits you and will help you feel good about yourself.  When you feel good about yourself, you look good.  Instead of trying to make a lot of big changes, choose some small ones that you can achieve easily enough so that you accumulate successes that motivate you to do more.  Check out these ideas:

A Gift For Yourself – Something just for you, whether that be a new hairstyle, facial, or massage.  We all know how good it feels to pamper ourselves a little and what better way to start a new year.

Do Random Acts Of Kindness As Often As possible - There are countless ways to brighten someone’s day:  give compliments, smile, pick up trash, help a senior citizen find their car, give your server a generous tip…

Spring Clean Early – Tidying up your room, the house, your closet, or your car all contribute to a feeling of wellbeing and calm.  Start the new year off neat and organized.

Try A New Thing Once A Month – These can be as big as planning a camping trip or as small as trying a new kind of food.  You decide how you want to expand your horizons and make it happen.  You could get a friend to sign up for the skydiving class with you.

Improve Your Sleep Habits – It’s well known that most people don’t sleep enough.  Not only is this a health hazard but being tired steals away some of the joy out of your day.

Redecorate A Little Or A Lot – Rearrange the furniture for a new look, add a jazzy throw pillow or blanket, fresh flowers or a new coat of paint.  Sprucing up our external environment spruces up the internal as well.

Tell One Person Each Week That You Love Them – Make a promise to share how much you care for and are grateful for the people that you have in your life.

Buy A Plant – Taking care of and nurturing a plant nourishes your emotions, in addition to improving the air quality of your space.

Commit To Exercise – This doesn’t have to mean a gym membership.  Taking the stairs, parking farther away, walking the dog an extra block are all small ways to incorporate more movement into your routine.  The benefits of exercise for your physical and emotional health are well documented.

A new year, a new you is just around the corner.  Best wishes to you for a delightful year.
